THE MANDALORIAN PARALLAXES

Using Adobe After Effects, see Din Djarin like you've never seen him before.

I have edited.

Parallaxing is the concept of moving an image, converting it to a 2.5D format, by using 3D layering. It is used in various different projects, to add some flare to image and keep an audience engaged whenever a picture needs to be used. Interestingly enough, 'The Mandalorian' show itself uses this technique, during the credits of each episode.

I’d never seen something until I watched The Mandalorian that actually used concept art whilst the credits roll. Now the editors would’ve then had a task: What is the best way to make the concept art itself come to life? The answer was the parallax, and it works very well. The essence of making the art essentially move both smoothly and naturally ensures that nothing looks too plain. Another thing it also does that I do love, is ensure that the image does not dissolve into the background, despite being the background itself. It keeps things interesting, it gives a sense of importance, and also a sense of great care on the editor’s part.

A Mandalorian and a Parallax? They’ll never see it coming.

Parallaxes are quite simple. By removing backgrounds in Photoshop, making layers 3-D and changing their scale in After Effects, and adding over a few green screen effects in Premiere, I found that I could make some great parallaxes. I suppose the fact I chose Star Wars to edit on also helps boost the final product?
